Wind vane with own hands

A plastic bottle is one of the best materials for making crafts for garden plots, cottages and houses. Products made of plastic bottles are durable and very interesting: flowerbeds , garden hand-made articles and much more. In this article we will focus on weathervanes. The weathervane is a structure with a counterweight, which turns after the wind. With its help you can not only determine the strength of the wind, but also decorate the infield. And if you make a weathervane on the roof with your own hands with the child, for him the process of creating a weather vane will be not only interesting, but also cognitive.

As the legend says, in addition to the decorative function, the weather vane is also a home guard. Children's weathercock can be made in the form of fairy-tale heroes, characters of children's films, various animals or insects.

How to make a plane weathercock with propellers from a plastic bottle with your own hands?

Before you make a weathervane with a propeller with your own hands, you must prepare the following materials:

  1. On the cardboard we draw wings and a propeller. Take the lid from the plastic bottle and circle it inside the propeller to correctly choose the diameter. It is necessary to draw a circle of a slightly larger size.
  2. We glue the propeller with tape so that it does not tear during the attachment to the airplane.
  3. We estimate the width of the wings of the aircraft - it must be at least one third of the bottle. The wingspan can be anything you want.
  4. We take a plastic bottle and with the help of a knife we make small incisions in places where the wings of the aircraft will be attached. We insert wings.
  5. We remove the lid from the bottle. We dress the propeller. We twist the lid back.
  6. The plane itself with the propeller is ready.
  7. But we still need to make a cabin for the pilot. In the center of the plastic bottle above the wings, cut out a small square hole.
  8. A child can put in the cockpit of a small soft toy in the form of an animal.

Various variants of manufacture of a weathercock from a plastic bottle

In addition to a weather vane in the form of a plane, you can make a weather vane and without a propeller. The simplest weathercock will be easy for a child of school age, if you take for its manufacture a propeller from a children's airplane.

We prepare the materials:

  1. We take a plastic bottle in volume of one and a half liters. We cut off the bottom of it.
  2. In the front part we cut out fragments of an arbitrary shape to ensure a better purge.
  3. We make the tail part of the plane. To do this, take a plastic label for clothing and insert it into the top of the plastic bottle.
  4. Make a hole in the bottle cork.
  5. We take a bolt and nuts M5, with which we attach the children's propeller to the cork. If you do not have such a propeller from a children's toy, then as an alternative you can take an aluminum sheet and cut out the propeller from it. However, the child already does not make such a weather vane with a propeller. The adult's help is needed here.
  6. In the middle of the bottle we insert a stick and fix it with a long screw. A weathervane with a propeller is ready.

You can make a simple weathervane with your own hands. To do this, you need to select the materials:

The stages of work are as follows:

  1. Using a scissors, we cut off the neck and the bottom of the two-liter bottle. So, we have a cylinder.
  2. On one side of the cylinder we retreat from the edge by about 5-7 cm. Then it is necessary to pierce the bottle with a steel rod.
  3. At the bottom you need to fix the axis with a button or bead. It is important to choose the correct size so that it does not allow the steel rod to move.
  4. From polystyrene we cut out a semicircle. Its diameter should be slightly smaller than the bottle.
  5. We attach the needle to the foam plastic.
  6. We fix the resulting semicircle of polystyrene on the spoke inside the plastic bottle. So we made the weather vane literally in 5 minutes.

Having located a weathercock on a summer residence, you will get rid of annoying birds which sit down on a roof. Also, a weathervane with a propeller will allow you to determine the direction of the wind most accurately. And having made it with their own hands, the child will look with pride every day at his own made windy.
