Aggersborg

The beauty of Denmark's attractions is impossible not to admire. One of the most attractive architectural features is the Aggersborg castle fort, located on the Jutland peninsula, on the right bank of the Limfjord. Today it is the largest of the six Viking castles.

History of Aggersborg, Denmark

It is difficult to imagine that this beauty was erected in the distant 10th century on the site of the destroyed settlement. It is rumored that the ancient warriors had to cut down about 5,000 century old trees in order to place such a structure.

Today it is difficult to say what the castle was built for, but some fragments of living quarters make it possible to assume that these were military barracks. True, they were used for about 15 years. During the uprising in 1085, the peasants looted Aggersborg. In 1990, the ancient building was completely restored.

What to see?

Castle-fort is a concentric circle, which is surrounded by ramparts. Its height reaches 4 m, and the thickness - up to 20 m. In the center of the castle there is an observation tower, and around it - apartment houses.

Today, there are exhibits found during the restoration of the castle: fragments of a glass jug, crystal beads, a gold bracelet, Viking decorations, their tools and weapons.

Aggersborg is full of mysteries: it's enough to look at the most precise geometry, underground foundation and can not believe that in the distant past the Scandinavian builders were so clever that they managed to build this circular citadel at a high level. In addition, it can not help confusing the fact that all six Danish Viking castles are strictly aligned, which, by the way, leads to the ancient city of Delphi.
