In the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the city of three religions - Trebinje . In this amazing and controversial city there is an interesting landmark that no tourist can pass by - it's the Square of Poets.

General information

Trebinje is an old city, the tourist direction in which it develops mainly on the cultural and historical heritage. These include the famous Poets Square, located in the city center. It is adjacent to the Museum of Local Lore, the chapel and fortress walls. In the square "live" sixteen century-old plane trees, their vast crowns hide tourists from the scorching sun. By the way, it is between them is the famous Bosnian cafe "Platani", which got its name due to these trees. This institution during the existence of Yugoslavia was famous for its large size. Its summer area can accommodate more than 100 tourists. The tables are placed right next to the powerful trunks of plane trees, which gives this place a special atmosphere.

But the main role in the Square of Poets is still given to the monument to Jovan Dučić - a Serbian poet and diplomat who was born in Trebinje. In addition, he was the founder of the Serbian national group "Narodna Oborona", which defended the national interests of the Serbs in the first half of the last century. The organization was so devoted to its people that it even had an armed formation. Duchich is a national hero and a symbol of modern Serbian poetry. No less respect for him applies in the territory of Serbia.

Today, the area of ​​poets plays an important role in the cultural life of the city. There are various festivals - from music to poetry. And, of course, where is it like not here to gather young poets to share their first creative steps.

The square of poets is in the center of the city, near the park Gradski park. The Catholic Church Katedrala rođenja Blažene Djevice Marije can also serve as a landmark. There are no stops nearby, but near the square there is the M20 road.
