Areca - care

Areca is a decorative flower of the palm family, which grows wild in the subtropical climate of the Comoros and Madagascar. The plant is a small tree with a thin long trunk and pinnate leaves of a dark green color. What the florists love for areka, it is for a rather rapid growth - within two or three years it reaches a height of more than one meter. And this is subject to proper care for the areca.

Home care at home: landing

When planting it, you can use the prepared soil for lemon. If there is none, then any other land with high drainage properties will do, otherwise roots will rot in the areca. Mix the sod land, coarse-grained sand, peat, pebbles, granite or humus in equal proportions. The flower pot should be deep, as the plant develops a good root system, and it should have drainage holes.

Watering and climate

Optimal illumination for areka is considered to be diffuse light and partial shade. Direct sunlight can cause burns on the leaf plates. To the temperature of the air, the plant is not demanding: it transfers heat and short-term drops to -5 ° C. But the most suitable conditions in winter are +17 + 18⁰С, and in summer +25 + 28⁰С.

But in the care of a palm tree, it is important to water the right watering. The moisture is needed for the plant when the earth's clod will dry up. If you water the pot more often, the roots of a palm tree will simply rot and it will die. Try to water gently so that moisture does not fall on the crown of the flower. By the way, one of the species of the arechus - Chrysalidocarpus - is in need of watering, 2-3 times a day in summer and once a week in winter. Use as much as possible standing water at room temperature. Care for the flower of the weed suggests and the establishment of high humidity in the room. Otherwise, the ornamentation of the areca will suffer - the tips of the leaves become dry. Humidity can be achieved by spraying water near the plant, avoiding falling on the crown. By the way, water for spraying is also better to defend.

In the warm season - from spring to autumn - the plant should be fed regularly several times a week. For watering, liquid fertilizer for palm trees is perfectly suitable.

The transplant is carried out every 2-3 times a year, not more often, since the root system of the flower does not tolerate such a change. If the soil in the pot is depleted, and the roots look, just fill the fresh top layer.
