Cress-salad on the windowsill

Unusually, at first glance, the plant is rich in many useful properties . Applying watercress to food is an excellent option to fill the diet with vitamins and microelements. Of course, to find greens in the store at any time of the year is not a problem now. But we propose to try growing cress salad on the windowsill in winter.

How to grow a cress salad on a windowsill - planting

Growing a culture at home is possible from seeds. The most interesting is that this does not even require a full primer, as a substratum you can use cotton wool, cotton cloth, sponge or paper towels. On the tray, install a layer of substrate up to 2 cm in height and impregnate with standing water. Seeds of watercress should be filled with water first, and then evenly laid on the "soil". After that, the container with the seedlings is covered with a food film. Cress salad is placed on a poorly illuminated windowsill room, where the air is heated to a maximum of +15 degrees. It is important that the temperature does not fall below +7 degrees.

The first sprouts in green can be seen in a few days. In the future, caring for the plant involves airing (that is, removing the film) and regular watering. And for this purpose we use a spray gun. The lack of watering and its excess are equally dangerous for watercress. From time to time, the container with sprouts must be rotated along the axis, so that the seedlings grow evenly, and not stretched in one direction.

Use cress-salad, grown on the windowsill in winter, can be used 15-17 days after planting. Usually the stems reach a height of 6-10 cm. Harvest is not cut off, but cut with scissors. And it is recommended to take as much cress-salad as you plan to eat, not preparing in advance.
