How to grow hyacinths at home?

First of all, it is necessary to prepare the planting material, that is, the bulbs of those varieties that are well established in growing at home. These include Bismarck, Carnegie, Lady Derby, Marconi, Marie, Jan Bos. Their bulbs should be dense, without damage and approximately 5 cm in diameter.

If you have a garden hyacinth, then you can use it. For this bulb should be excavated after the end of flowering (no later than the first week of July), cleaned from the ground and dried in conditions of high humidity. Store them first at + 23-25 ° C, and before landing (late summer), reduce the temperature to + 16-17 ° C.

The process of growing hyacinths at home is often called forcing, because, by creating certain conditions for this flower, it can be made to bloom even in winter, when in normal conditions, it is still at rest.

Most often they try to grow hyacinths in a pot to holidays such as New Year, Christmas, February 14 and March 8. It is necessary to start forcing out about 4 months before the required date of flowering.

Landing is carried out mainly in the autumn. First prepare the substrate. You can buy a special soil mixture for hyacinths or mix clayey-turf ground with coarse sand. The selected container (pot 20-30 cm high) is first filled with soil for a third (about 10 cm), watered and tamped. Then we spread the bulbs so that there is a small space between them and fall asleep with soil. As a result, only their tails should remain visible.

For rooting of bulbs, after planting, the container should be placed in a dark place with a low temperature (about + 5-9 ° C). For this you can use a balcony, cellar or refrigerator. There they should spend about 10 weeks. During this period, they usually grow by 1-3 cm. After the end of the "cooling" period, the pot should be brought into a cool room (+ 12-16 ° C) and put in a dark place for about 1 week. Then you should move it closer to the light.

Pot with bulbs should stand in a well-lit place without drafts. To get bright green leaves and large flowers, you need to look after hyacinth properly:

  1. Water only when the earth completely dries, avoiding overmoistening.
  2. Carry out fertilizing with complex mineral fertilizers.

With these simple rules, hyacinth should bloom after 3 weeks. Its flowering usually lasts up to 20 days. If he will stand in a hot room, then he will blossom before this time, in the cool - later.

How to plant hyacinths at home without land?

More and more often you can find a flowering hyacinth in a beautiful transparent container. This kind of cultivation is also permissible. To do this, fill the vessel with soft water with a complex mineral fertilizer dissolved in it. After this, the bulb must be placed so that it touches the liquid only where the roots should grow. In autumn such a construction should stand in a dark place. During this period, one should only observe the water level and replenish it in a timely manner. In order for such a plant to blossom, it will only be necessary to put it into the light.

Bulbs that were grown at home, after flowering should be planted in the open ground, where they will continue to please you, but only in the spring.
