The child rolls up when crying

Children's tantrums - the phenomenon is inevitable. Babies are not yet able to adequately express their condition, so in this way they express discontent, fear, anger and other strong emotions. From the behavioral point of view, this phenomenon is more or less understandable, but it happens that a somatic component is connected to it and the child rolls up and even turns blue when crying, which is extremely frightening for parents. Such attacks in medicine are called affective-respiratory paroxysms, they consist of a delay in breathing at the height of exhalation and inability to breathe for a while.

Why does a child roll with crying?

Rolling is nothing else than the early manifestations of hysterical attacks and fainting. They occur in toddlers in the first-second years of life and, as a rule, go to eight. Sometimes parents perceive this as a kind of theatrical scene played by the child in attempts to manipulate adults, however, this is not so. It is impossible to feign an affective respiratory attack, it is of a reflex character and with a strong crying the child really "rolls around" and sometimes even loses consciousness. Stopping breathing at the same time last no more than 30-60 seconds, which is enough to change the color of the skin.

The child rolls up when crying - the reasons

The most prone to affective-respiratory paroxysms are children that are irritable, hyperactive, capricious and easily excitable. Provoke an attack can be severe stress, anger and even discomfort - hunger or excessive fatigue. Sometimes parents themselves stimulate the occurrence of such attacks - if the child is constantly protected from disorders, to allow him everything, then the slightest refusal can cause such an inordinately violent reaction.

If the frequency and nature of reactions worries parents, then perhaps the question of why the baby rolls up when crying, the neurologist can respond after a series of studies. Do not delay the visit to the doctor, because according to some sources affective-respiratory attacks are capable of escalating into epileptic ones.

What to do when the baby rolls?

The first thing that parents should do when an attack occurs in a child is to take themselves in hand and avoid panic. Paroxysm is stopped by actions from the outside, for this it is enough to pat the child on the cheeks, sprinkle water or blow him in the face - this will restore the reflex of proper breathing.

It is important not to delay and stop the attack at the initial stage. After resuming normal breathing, the baby should be distracted and reassured.
