The Pakakun Botanical Garden invariably evokes delight among tourists of all ages. It is located directly in Quito , the capital of Ecuador . Height above sea level of 2.8 km does not affect the chic orchids, the impressive rosary and cacti, which blossom here no less luxuriantly than the roses and are represented by the most unusual species.
Orchids
In the botanical garden of Pakakun there are two huge greenhouses for them. Tourists are accustomed to calling them "Palaces of Glass" for the futuristic style and huge arrays of windows. In addition to more than 100 species of orchids, various tropical plants have found their home here, for which a special microclimate is needed. In Ecuador, more than 17,000 orchids grow, including the tiniest, with a flower diameter of just over 2 mm. Of all this diversity, over one and a half thousand are considered endemic (growing only in Ecuador).
Roses
The rose garden in the botanical garden of Pakakun strikes a variety. Roses grow on volcanic soil, and therefore have beautiful colors and aroma. The smell in the rose garden is extraordinary. Tourists often talk about the feeling that "I want to take this flavor with me." Ecuador takes the leading place in the world for growing and exporting roses.
Cacti
An avid cactus lover, hitting here, will be delighted. Such a variety of "thorns" is difficult to imagine. Cactus is not only a small ball, all set with needles, as we used to see it on the windowsills.
In the botanical garden of Pakakun you can see the following varieties:
- balls;
- Long sticks, pricked with spines;
- branches with sharp needles;
- whole thickets;
- prickly trees, hung with fruits;
- extraordinary beauty of flowers on the cacti that are not visible in sight.
Under the cacti in the botanical garden Pakakun allotted a whole plantation. Also here you can admire the diversity of tropical plants, the fauna of the cold mountains, fruit trees.
