Chorion marginal presentation

Chorion is a provisional organ, from which the placenta or child's place is formed. In simple terms, this is one of the successive stages in the formation of the placenta. Since the placenta is formed gradually, usually by the 18th week, all the functions up to this point are performed by the chorion.

The first ultrasound in pregnancy is recommended to be done in 9-12 weeks when registered in the LC, and often in custody more than 50% of pregnant women are diagnosed with a marginal presentation of the chorion. What does it mean?

This diagnosis only indicates that there is a low attachment of the chorion, that is, a fertilized egg , hitting the cavity of the uterus, attached not to the bottom (the most physiological and favorable situation), but descended to the side of the cervix and cervical canal. Having penetrated into the mucous membrane, the ovum and the uterine epithelium formed a chorion.

There are several options for the presentation of the chorion:

Normal placentation is observed in the case when the chorion is in the bottom of the uterus.

What are the risks of different types of presentation?

Any type of presentation is dangerous because the chorion germinates with the vessels that form the placenta. With a low attachment of the chorion, profuse bleeding may occur, the risk of interruption and no pregnancy, as well as the inability of physiological births due to the risk of bleeding and antenatal fetal death.

In marginal presentation, the risk is minimal, since there is a concept of migration of the placenta, and by 18 weeks in 90% of cases the placenta rises on the wall of the uterus and occupies a normal position. With incomplete presentation, the prognosis is also quite optimistic - this option often turns into marginal presentation or the placenta takes a normal place and all complications are leveled. The most unfavorable is full presentation, since it threatens early bleeding and termination of pregnancy.

Edge presentation of the chorion - treatment

Treatment of marginal presentation usually comes down to observing the doctor's recommendations, namely: sexual rest, minimal physical exertion, minimal psycho-emotional loads and rational nutrition. Incomplete presentation often requires observation in the hospital and the use of medicines. Most often pregnant women in this case appoint Dufaston according to the instructions.
