Diverter for mixer

Virtually any mixer has such a detail as a divertor. For a common man who rarely encountered plumbing, this concept may be unfamiliar. Therefore, we will talk about what a divertor is for a mixer and what it is needed for.

What is a diverter in a mixer?

A divertor is a device that is a switch, through which water begins to flow through one or another pipe. There are several types of diverters:

  1. The first is found in the mixer of each shower: it is it allows you to switch water from the tap into a spout or a shower head.
  2. The second is usually in the kitchen sink and is needed in those cases where a dishwasher or washing machine is connected to the mixer in the kitchen. Thus, the divertor simply closes the water in the pipe to the device when it is turned off.
  3. This device, by the way, is also used when a flow filter is connected to the sink. The divertor simply switches the flow of water filtered or unfiltered, if desired.

In general, in the mixer the divertor is the link between the cartridge in which hot and cold water is mixed and spilled.

Types of diverters for mixer

In general, diverters are of three types: lever, push-button and exhaust. The latter is a classic type used for single-use faucets in showers. In this case, to switch the water, you just need to pull the handle-button of the divertor up. The lever (or flag) switch simply turns left or right, feeding water into the watering can or spout. Usually this kind is used in two-point mixers. In the lever or extractor divertor, a brass ball switch is used.

A ceramic divertor has just appeared. Internal plates are made of this material. Such a switch has increased reliability due to the resistance to water hammers and the smoothness of switching modes.

Well, the hydraulic divertor is used in agricultural and communal machines to distribute the water jet to several circuits in the pump.
