Fibrolipoma of the breast is nothing more than a benign neoplasm of the fatty tissue of the breast. Such formations can appear in any organs that contain adipose tissue. The reasons for the appearance of such a benign tumor have not yet been fully understood, and only suppositions exist. So, we will try to consider possible causes of a tumor in the adipose tissue of the breast, as well as treatment and possible consequences.
Causes of Lipofibroma of the Breast
As already mentioned, the exact cause of the appearance of lipoma in the breast in women is not found. It is suggested that sebaceous gland can develop into lipofibroma. It is customary to distinguish the following types of mammary glands:
- diffuse lipoma does not have a capsule and is surrounded by proliferation of adipose tissue (occurs infrequently);
- Knotty lipoma is characterized by the presence of a capsule;
- fibrolipoma is a denser fatty tumor that has a connective tissue in its structure;
- angiolipoma has a developed vasculature;
- Myolipoma in its composition has muscle fibers;
- Lipogranuloma of the breast is an inflammatory altered fatty tumor (as a result of traumatizing it or disturbing the blood circulation).
Diagnosis of breast fibrolipoma
In order to correctly diagnose, it is often sufficient to carefully examine and palpate the patient's mammary glands (a local compaction with clear contours is probable, which may be mobile). Women, as a rule, do not make complaints, they are more concerned about the aesthetic defect (especially if the lipofibroma reaches a large size).
Of the additional methods of research are informative ultrasound and mammography (breast x-ray). At ultrasonic research fibrolipoma has a kind of a fatty tissue with low echogenicity, having a non-uniform structure.
Fibrolipoma of the breast - treatment
Benign tumor of adipose tissue of the breast does not pass independently (does not resolve), but requires prompt removal. Removal of fibrolipoma of the breast is necessary with its rapid growth, large sizes (at which the surrounding tissues of the breast are squeezed), as well as with malignant degeneration (the risk of such degeneration in the pre-menopausal period is high). After such surgical intervention, the patient should take antibiotics, drugs that increase immunity, vitamins and absorbent homeopathic medicines.
After removing the lipofibroma, the woman should be observed. The generally accepted standard for monitoring a patient after removal of the fibrolipoma includes:
- visit the mammologist at least 3 times a year;
- ultrasound examination of mammary glands 3-4 times a year;
- mammography 2 times a year.
Possible complications of mammary lipofibrosis
- The first complication of lipofibroma of the breast is its inflammation (lipogranuloma), which occurs as a result of a chest injury. Lipogranuloma is manifested by local edema, redness and pain. Treatment of such pathology can be conservative.
- The second, more serious complication is malignant degeneration of the tissues of lipofibroma. In this case, treatment should be exclusively surgical.
Thus, we considered such a pathology as fibrolipoma of the breast. For a long time the lipoma can not cause any problems, but it is felt only when the breast is felt. To avoid possible complications, it is necessary to undergo a timely examination by a mammologian.
