What is the fortress of Samaypat in Bolivia?

Fuerte de Samaipata (Fuerte de Samaipata), which the people called simply El Fuerte, many centuries ago was the most important religious and ceremonial center. Historians believe that this once majestic fort was built by people of the ancient civilization of the vat. In the immediate vicinity you can also see the ruins of the city of the Incas and the small settlements of the Spaniards, which indicates that three cultures coexisted simultaneously in this territory.

Fuerte de Samaypata - a popular tourist destination, which is visited annually by tens of thousands of inquisitive tourists. In order to protect the complex from damage, most of it is fenced and is not accessible for visits. In 1998, the fortress was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

What to see on the territory of the fort?

The archaeological complex of El Fuerte is divided into two parts: the ceremonial and administrative sectors. The ceremonial sector is located in the northern part of the fortress. On huge boulders are cut all kinds of figures: geometric shapes, drawings of animals and people. Also interesting is El Cascabel, which depicts two parallel lines. According to some scholars, this place was the starting point for an ancient flying object. But the most important part of the ceremonial sector is the so-called "choir of priests", which is located on the highest point of the cliff. It consists of 18 niches, which probably served as seats for 18 people. At the base of the rock there are 20 rectangular niches in which ritual objects and tools were stored.

The administrative sector occupies the entire southern part of the complex. Here, apparently, was the Inca provincial capital. In the center is a large trapezoidal platform. In its southern part stands a rectangular building, symbolizing the political power of the Incas. In this place, people's congresses and all ceremonial events were held.
