German Shepherd Training

The German Shepherd is a breed that has become the embodiment of the mind and faithful service. "Dzhulbars", "To me, Mukhtar", "Boundary Dog Scarlet", "Four Tankmen and a Dog" are favorite and well-known films where the German Shepherd shows miracles of dexterity, wit and obedience in the execution of commands. But such sheep dogs are not born, but become thanks to competent upbringing and training.

The training of a German shepherd begins long before the animal begins to train the teams. Beginning training with education. An ill-bred dog is absolutely impossible to train, therefore, education should be given maximum available time.

Training of a German Shepherd puppy

What is the training of a German Shepherd puppy? There are several rules:

  1. Once you have chosen a place (a stove) for a dog, do not change it at all, otherwise the puppy will not remember the "place" command for a very long time, and this will create serious difficulties in his subsequent upbringing. If this rule is violated, in the future the puppy can lightly treat the team "place", sit down on your chair (take your place "leader"), cunning and sleep at night in the wrong place for him, etc. And in this behavior the owner will be guilty, that is the leader who initially did not ask the puppy specific landmarks and showed by his behavior that inconsistency is normal. Do not let yourself do this.
  2. From the first days, accustom the puppy to the fact that you can be in his place (litter), but he is not on your (armchair, bed, chair). In no case should the puppy be allowed to sleep in bed, on the carpet by the bed or any other place, except his couch. The dog should have its place, and the little puppy must understand this.
  3. Do not scold the puppy for what he could not stand and went to the toilet in the apartment. Puppies do not know how to hold back. It is necessary to accustom the dog to the fact that in the apartment he has an oilcloth, where he must go.
  4. None of the guests should in any case play with the puppy or feed him. This rule must be explained to all guests before they come into the house. A puppy is not a soft toy, he must remember who is his master, should not get used to feeding from the hands of strangers. The same goes for games. For a puppy, the game is training, and only his master can teach him, otherwise the adult dog will be disobedient.

The owner from the very first days should become a leader for the puppy, the main one. The leader takes care of the puppy (does not indulge him, but cares about his timely nutrition and safety), educates him (makes it clear what can and can not be done). The leader does not bring up aggression (slapping, screaming, beating), but by illustrating the correct behavior and encouraging the puppy. If the owner is illogical and inconsistent (changing the place of the couch, the bowl forage, inconsistent in assessing the actions of the dog), then it will be useless to demand obedience from the dog.

German Shepherd Training Rules

The main provisions of the education and training of the German Shepherd are as follows:

  1. Training a German shepherd on its own lies in the fact that the sheepdog is trained only by the owner! The hosts can not be two or three. You can not allow an animal to perform commands of strangers, friends, relatives.
  2. The host is the host. The master is the master. Not the dog walks the owner, that is, determines where to go, and the owner determines where to go to the dog. Therefore, the dog never goes ahead of the owner. Of course, this needs to be accustomed to it. As well as to the leash, enter the elevator first and the team "next door". It is necessary to give a treat during training, if the dog went after the owner, and not ahead. If the shepherd tries to bite the master, even playfully, or somehow challenge his right to rule, one should take the animal by the withers, bend his head to the ground and utter his discontent. Continue to hold the dog until it stops resisting and begins to listen to you.
  3. First of all, the team "to me!" Always works. While the animal has not mastered and did not understand this command, it is pointless to continue training the dog of a sheep-dog.
  4. Do not let the dog eat anything from the floor, from the hosts table, begging for food. The dog has her "place" for eating - this is her bowl. The only exception is the food that only the owner gives to her! If you accustom to this dog since childhood, this will save the sheepdog from poisoned food, which it can pick up on the street.
  5. Rule of encouragement. The dog coped with the team - praise. Scold for the uncompleted team in any case impossible. The dog does not understand that she is being scolded for what she did not do. She will understand only that she is scolded for what she already did, and will bind the punishment with her last action. For example, the command "sit" the dog did not sit down, but licked the owner's hand. The punishment that followed that the dog did not sit will be perceived by her as a punishment for her last act, that is, because she licked her hand.

Training the shepherd at home will require the owner to have patience and endurance. But the result of correct education will be a faithful friend who will never show undue aggression and will always stand up for his beloved host.
