How to treat onions before planting?

Most of the vegetables grown in our plots are pre-planted to protect against diseases and pests , as well as giving them additional strength for rapid germination and abundant harvest. Onion is no exception. And in this article we will talk about how and how to handle the onion before planting.

Sowing onion before planting

Onion scoop is planted in order to obtain a large head onion in autumn. Most often it is bought in ready form in the store, although it is quite possible to grow it yourself from seeds. Be that as it may, the seed must be prepared properly for planting, otherwise the germination will be low, and the resistance to diseases and pests is weak.

First of all, you need to select all patients, small, dry and excessively soft bulbs. The remaining seed should be dried in a warm place, spreading a thin layer. This is necessary to ensure that the bow, stored before that in a cool place, woke up and the processes of growth "stirred" in it.

First, drying is carried out at a temperature of + 20 ° C and higher for 20 days. Then the temperature is raised to + 40 ° C and the onion is placed in it for 8-10 hours. Such warming not only activates growth, but also prevents archery in the future.

The more you can handle the onion before landing from the archery: some advise for a minute to fill the sowing with hot water, heated to + 60 ° C or place it in a cloth in a glass pan and warm in the microwave for 1.5 minutes.

Further it is very good to soak onions in a solution of the growth stimulator - Zircon, Humisol, Grow-1 and so on. Alternatively, it is possible to place the ray in a solution of a complex mineral fertilizer.

Than to process a bow before planting from pests?

To prevent pests from ruining your harvest of onions, you must disinfect the bulbs before planting, so that they do not attract larvae, the most dangerous of which is the onion fly larva.

Than to process onion before planting, our grandmothers also knew and with success used a saline solution and a solution of potassium permanganate. The saline solution rescues from the nematodes, and the potassium permanganate (or copper sulfate) is protected from other insects, as well as from fungal diseases.

Onion nematode is a dangerous pest of onions, which leads to growth inhibition and shrinkage of the rhizome. This small round worm affects many crops, it is often found in agricultural regions and loves moist soil. The nematode is populated in onion crops and, eating the juice of the plant, simply kills it.

No less dangerous and onion fly. It looks like an ordinary housefly, because we can not always recognize it. She lays eggs under a small layer of soil on the onion bed or right between the leaves of the onion. Of these, a week later the caterpillars hatch and immediately begin to eat bulbs from the inside. Moreover, the onion fly lays eggs twice a season - in early June and in the middle-end of July. So the invasion of larvae always occurs in two stages.

To initially prevent the onion landing by the larvae of the onion fly, it is necessary, in addition to soaking the seedling in manganese, to sprinkle them with fly ash or tobacco dust, which they do not tolerate.

In the process of growth, it is possible, as a preventive measure, to irrigate beds with onions with infusion of dandelion roots, saline solution and a weak solution of potassium permanganate.

It frightens off the onion fly a close arrangement of carrots, which does not allow its fungicides to approach it to onion plantings. At the same time, the onion does not allow carrots to reproduce, so that the neighborhood is mutually beneficial.
