La León

One of the most picturesque corners of the capital of Honduras is the park of La-León, a favorite recreation place for the city's residents. It is located in the historical center of Tegucigalpa , not far from its main attractions . From here you can enjoy stunning views of the city and the surrounding area.

History of the park

The breakdown of the park in this place was planned back in 1840, when the municipality allocated land to rich families for the construction of houses. Here were built large residences designed by the architect Gustav Voltaire, a German emigrant.

Works on the creation of the park were started only in 1910, under President Lopez Gutierrez and under his auspices. The work was supervised by the architect Augusto Bressani. The first thing was a wall, designed to protect the soil from washing out during the rainy season. Along the wall was laid a street on which for lighting and decoration were installed lights, decorated with forged elements. They also survived to the present day.

Park in our days

The park is decorated in French style. Original forging fences and vintage vases make it surprisingly elegant. The main attraction of the park is the Monument of Manuel Bonilla, installed in its center, who served as President of Honduras from 1904 to 1907 and from 1912 to 1913.

The lush greenery of La Leone, shady alleys and comfortable benches attract tourists, tired of visiting the attractions of Tegucigalpa , and the townspeople. Young people also love this park - you can ride skates or roller skates along its avenues, there is also a basketball court.

How to get to the park of La Leone?

You can go to the park (or drive) or along Boulevard Comunidad Económica Europea, then by Puente Estocolmo, or by Boulevard Kuwait, Blvrd José Cecilio del Valle, then by Puente la Isla and Calle Adolfo Zúñiga, or by Avenida Juan Manuel Galvez and Av República de Chile.
