Medical treatment of stomatitis in adults

Stomatitis is one of the most common groups of inflammatory diseases of the oral mucosa. Usually, with this disease, there is swelling, reddening of the mucosa, possibly the occurrence of local rashes, wounds and sores. Stomatitis can have a different nature, occur both in children and in adults, but it is easy enough to be medicated.

Types of stomatitis

  1. Catarrhal stomatitis. The most common form, usually caused by non-compliance with oral hygiene and local factors. There is reddening and swelling of the gums, the appearance of whitish plaque, bleeding gums and bad breath.
  2. Aphthous stomatitis . Relate to chronic forms, which are characterized by the appearance of rashes and sores with a long period of healing, painful sensations in the mouth, increased body temperature.
  3. Herpes stomatitis. The most frequent viral form of the disease, provoked by the herpes virus.
  4. Allergic stomatitis.
  5. Fungal stomatitis. First of all, they are provoked by candidiasis.

Treatment of stomatitis with medications

Medications for the treatment of stomatitis can be divided into two categories: general purpose, which are used regardless of the form of the disease (anti-inflammatory, disinfecting, etc.); and specific, which are used only in the treatment of a specific form of the disease (antiviral, antifungal, antiallergic drugs).

Mouthwashes:

  1. Chlorhexidine. The most commonly prescribed antiseptic, which helps to kill bacteria in the mouth.
  2. Hydrogen peroxide.
  3. Furacil. Two tablets are dissolved in a glass of warm water and rinse the mouth three times a day. Leaving solution is undesirable, it is better to do a new one every time.
  4. Rotokan , malavit, chlorophyllipt. Preparations on a plant basis with disinfecting and anti-inflammatory properties.
  5. Miramistin. The drug is used in the treatment of candidal stomatitis in adults.

Preparations for local treatment of the oral cavity:

  1. Iodinol, zelenka, lyugol, fukortsin. Used for pinpoint cauterization and drying of sores. You need to do this very carefully, because the funds can cause burns mucous.
  2. Metrogil Denta. Gel based on chlorhexidine. It is applied directly to the sores two times a day. The drug is mainly used to treat aphthous stomatitis.
  3. Acyclovir. Used in the treatment of herpes stomatitis.
  4. Kamistad gel. Anesthetic and anti-inflammatory agent, used in all forms of the disease.
  5. Dental paste Solcoseryl. The drug is used to accelerate healing.
  6. Hydrocortisone. This drug is used to treat medical stomatitis, that is, when the disease is caused by the body's reaction to any drugs (taking antibiotics, allergic reactions to drugs, etc.).
  7. Nystatin. It is used quite rarely, with candidal stomatitis, if other means have proved ineffective.

With the exception of some generic agents used for rinsing, most drugs should be prescribed by a doctor who will preset the diagnosis and determine the type of disease in order for the treatment to be safe and effective.
