Mixborder along the path

Mixborder is a very effective flower garden, which can be located along a garden path, fence or fence, along the edge of the lawn. Such a mixed border is created from a wide variety of colors and plants, which successfully combine with each other. The creation of a mixborder is considered one of the most complex elements of landscape design. However, the applied efforts fully pay off with the amazing beauty of the mixboarders. And even beginning flower growers can create a blossoming oasis on their site, having carefully studied this issue.

Rules for creating a mixborder

As a rule, in order to make a beautiful mixboarder, you need to observe some tricks:

  1. Most often, mixborders are created from perennials , and the plants are selected in such a way that the mixboarder blossoms throughout the season. Annuals are also used in mixborders to maintain its decorativeness at a time when perennials do not bloom.
  2. Do not plant absolutely all the plants that you could buy in the flower garden. It is better to use a small number of beautiful, combined with each other plants.
  3. Choose plants for mixborders in accordance with the type of soil, humidity, light, remembering the style of the site itself;
  4. it is very important to determine what your mixboarder will be in terms of colors: monophonic or multicolored. Today, exquisite monochrome flower gardens are very popular. For them, plants of the same tone are selected, but in different shades. Very beautiful look compositions with pastel tones. Bright colors - orange, red - look very colorful and defiant, and flower beds with only cold blue or purple flowers look grim. Multicolor mixborders can be created on a mix of contrasting colors or use shades that blend with each other.
  5. Correctly composed mixboarder should consist of tiers. So the flowers will grow freely, not obscuring each other and not competing with each other.

Planting mixborders of continuous flowering

Before embarking on flowers for the mixborder, you need to make a plan on which to place the plants and create from them an integral composition. It should be remembered that the length of the mixboarder can be any, but the width is no more than 1.5-2.5 m. This size of the flower garden will give an opportunity for convenient care of plantings on it. For an average mixborder, the optimal number of plant species is 10.

Plants blooming at the same time should be evenly distributed throughout the mixborder. Then it will not happen that flowering plants are located in one part, while the other at this time looks boring and colorless.

Plants with unusual color or size should be planted pointwise, they serve not as the main background, but only accents. When making a plan, use the planting rules for each plant species. This will help you to properly allocate space for different colors. Do not forget to analyze your plants in height, as well as decorativeness in different seasons. The principle of repetition must necessarily be used: One species of plants should be divided into parts and planted evenly along the entire flower garden. After carefully analyzing and correcting your plan, you can start implementing it on the ground.

The most successful and beautiful mixborders are obtained by combining herbaceous plants, shrubs, bulbous and annual plants. Initially, planted bushes - a kind of skeleton of the future mixborder. It can be a chubushnik, a lilac, a shrubby shrub and others. The next stage is herbaceous perennials: echinacea, koreopsis, lavatera, etc. Between groups of perennials are planted annuals such as violets, daisies, verbena.

Surprisingly beautiful mixborders with roses planted along the central line of the flower bed are obtained. However, in the mixborder, the rose does not dominate, as, for example, in the rosary, but demonstrates its royal beauty alongside suitable companions-herbaceous perennials.
