Potato costume with your own hands

In the autumn, in all kindergartens, they usually hold themed morning performances. Kids are given different roles, often - seasonal vegetables, fruits and other gifts of nature. So in the form of play, children remember, for example, what vegetables ripen in the fall. But at the same time, the care of the preparation of the costume falls on the shoulders of the parents. Of course, you can always rent it, but you can not always find the image you need. For example, a children's suit of potatoes is a rather rare character. Try to sew it yourself, especially since it is not difficult at all.

How to make a potato costume for a matinee?

1. First prepare the fabric - it should be brown, under the color of the potato peel. Take care that the material is easy, because the child will be in a suit for at least an hour. You can use cotton or, say, satin for this. Take note that the purchased suits from velor look very interesting, but they are completely impractical.
2. Unfold the selected fabric and mark its center. Postpone from this point 10 cm to the right and left. These figures are approximate, so it is better to use individual measurements taken from your child.
3. Carefully cut out the neck of the suit, using sharp scissors.
4. Then prepare the details for the appliqué - this will be the "face" of the costume of potatoes sewn by hand for the child. Cut out the necessary parts from felt or other suitable fabric and pin them with pins to the place where you will sew.
5. Using the sewing machine, attach the appliqué to the front of the suit. As a rule, it should be large enough and take center stage.
6. Now we will prepare the sleeves. Actually, this costume model does not presuppose the presence of the sleeves themselves, it will be a peculiar sleeveless jacket. Carefully cut out two symmetrical armholes in the right places, pre-fixing the fabric with tailor's pins.
7. There is another way - to fold the fabric in half and, on the contrary, sew the side parts of the suit, and leave the holes for the hands not stitched. However, in this case you will have to process the edges of the overlock.
8. So, make a machine line along the shoulder line and then down to the edge of the suit.
9. Then bend the bottom edge of the fabric from the wrong side.
10. Sew it from the inside, and in the resulting pocket, thread the elastic band in a classic way, with the help of an English safety pin.
11. On the back, at the top of it, you can make a small cut so that the outfit is more comfortable to wear. In this case, the suit should be fixed on the Velcro, button or button (the first option is much more practical).
12. Let's return to the application, which we carried out in paragraph 4 of this master class. It can be done in any form (eyes, nose and mouth), and the details of the application will differ for the costumes of the boy and girl. The face of potatoes, the "girls," is decorated with long eyelashes.
