  4. There are several rivers running through the territory of Punta Isopo: Texiguat, Lean, Congélica Mojiman, Jilamito and Mezapa, which connect and form five basins. The main reservoirs are Banana and Hicaque. 80% of all water resources of the reserve depend on them, they also feed the main canal, its sleeves, canals, ponds, etc.
  5. The reserve is a wetland, and in 1996 it was declared an environmental area by the international Ramsar Convention.
  6. Marshes in the reserve acquire various shades from dark blue to green. The main reason for this is the decomposition of organic microorganisms due to high temperature. During the rainy season, a part of the forests was flooded, and mangrove tannins were formed there.

The climate in Punta Isopo

The climate in the National Park is mostly humid and tropical. From May to October, the temperature drops, winds blow and the rains come, and on the water form strong waves. The average annual rainfall in Punta Isopo is 2800 mm. Usually the temperature here is kept at 24 ° C.

Inhabitants of the National Park

In the reservoir of the reserve there live alligators, jellyfish, crabs, turtles and various fish, which is a food for many birds, for example, pelicans and herons. Also from the birds here you can see bright parrots and tropical toucans.

The banks of the rivers are covered with lush vegetation, where you can see wild animals. Especially popular with tourists is the monkey-howler, which you, if you do not see, you will surely hear. These animals live in thickets of palm trees, and their screams are heard for tens of meters.

While in the reserve, try to behave quietly, so as not to disturb the natural habitat of mammals and not to frighten them. The canals that pass through mangrove groves allow travelers on boats to sneak in on the residents of the reserve.

The National Park can be reached both by land and by water. If you choose the first option, then come with an organized tour from the nearest cities, and if you want to go on a trip yourself, then pay attention to the signs of the road. Going to Punta Isopo by sea, you will get an extra adventure, because you have to overcome on the kayak numerous canals and mangroves.
