Any non-standard form of the main female organ is a congenital anomaly of development. At 10-14 weeks of pregnancy, the future girl develops a reproductive system: the Mullerian ducts gradually converge and merge, forming a uterine-vaginal cavity, separated by a septum, which gradually disappears. If at this stage there is a malfunction (for example, the mother had an infectious disease), the fusion does not happen completely. As a result, the saddle uterus is formed: the organ widened in cross section, with a flattened bottom and slightly expressed horns. Simply put, instead of a pear, the uterus is like a heart.
It is impossible to feel such an anomaly. Often, it is discovered by chance, during ultrasound or hysterography. The most accurate results are obtained by magnetic resonance imaging.
How to become pregnant with a saddle-shaped uterus?
Doctors calmed: the saddle uterus and conception are fully compatible, this form of the uterus does not influence the fertilization of the ovum . However, pregnancy can not go very smoothly: problems arise when implanting a fetal egg. If the embryo is attached to the altered bottom of the uterus, where the tissue is worse supplied with blood, spontaneous termination of pregnancy is possible. But more often the placenta is located low enough, which also threatens with detachment or miscarriage.

According to doctors, there is no specific treatment for the saddle uterus. The exception is only those cases when the uterus retains a septum, which almost always leads to infertility and termination of pregnancy in the early stages. As a rule, plastic surgery is performed in this case.
