Streletsky Island

Streletsky Island in Prague is a small islet in the middle of the Vltava, the main river of the city. It is located in the center of the city, but is relatively remote from the most popular hiking trails. Here you can enjoy not only the views, but also the silence.

Streletsky Island in Prague is a natural formation between the two banks of the Vltava River. Its area is very small - only 2.5 hectares. Often the shape of the island is modified by currents. In addition, the island, alas, often suffers from floods. The last time it was completely flooded in June 2013.

Once the Strelets Island was called Little Venice, because at one time a small Vltava channel ran right through the island.

Why is it worth visiting Streletsky Island?

This is not such a vivid attraction or place to put it on the list of must see. Streletsky Island in Prague is just a cozy corner in the middle of a noisy city, and only those who really love silence, solitude and nature will appreciate it.

The whole territory of the island is a large park: beautiful alleys, comfortable benches. Remarkably, the Streletsky Island is beautiful at any time of the year, but in the autumn its bright colors simply fascinate.

There are no big buildings here, only the restaurant "Streletsky Island", located directly on the beach. It offers a beautiful view of the building of the National Theater .

In summer there is an open-air cinema on the island, as well as a variety of concerts. In May, they traditionally host a student carnival festival - Mayolis.

How to get there?

Above the Strelets Island is the Legia Bridge, from which the steps lead downward. This makes it inaccessible to people with disabilities, but the Prague authorities are working on it, planning to make the lift
