Streptocide powder

Streptocide, also white sulfonamide, is one of the oldest antimicrobial agents in the sulfonamide group. In medicine, streptocide has been used since the middle of the twentieth century and up to now, although now its scope has been narrowed in its pure form due to the use of drugs of new generations and combined preparations based on sulfonamide. Streptocide is available in the form of powder, tablets, ointments, sold in pharmacies without a prescription and has a long (up to 10 years) shelf life.

Indications and contraindications for the use of streptocide

Streptocide is a white crystalline powder, odorless and with a bitter taste. The antimicrobial effect of the drug is due to the fact that it disrupts the synthesis processes in pathogenic microorganisms and thus stops their multiplication. The spectrum of its effect is very wide. Streptocide is effective against:

• streptococci;
• staphylococci;
• meningococci;
• gonococci;
• E. coli ;
• bacteria of the typhoid-dysenteric group;
• chlamydia;
• toxoplasmosis and many others, including some types of helminths.

Streptocide in the form of powder is used as a local remedy for:

• various wound infections;
• suppuration;
• infected burns;
• furunculosis ;
• erysipelas;
• other purulent-inflammatory processes of soft tissues.

Also, the streptocid powder was widely used to treat various diseases of the throat, tonsillitis, tonsillitis, stomatitis and inflammation of the oral cavity. To date, the use of streptocidal powder in angina and other ENT diseases is not too common, as it was replaced by more modern and more convenient forms of drugs.

Streptocide is contraindicated in:

• pregnancy;
• anemia;
• kidney diseases;
• renal and hepatic insufficiency;
• individual intolerance of the substance.

How to use streptocid powder?

With infected wounds, the drug is applied topically, as a powder. Usually streptocide is used when the wound is already inflamed, but in some cases can be applied prophylactically, if there is a risk of infection.

So:

1. Powder streptotsida poured directly on the open wound and on the skin, about 1-2 centimeters around.
2. After that, a bandage is applied from above.
3. The dressing should be changed 2-3 times a day, until the inflammatory process stops.

In addition, the streptocid solution can be used to wash the wounds.

With lacunar angina and tonsillitis, streptocidal powder is used for dusting of tonsils and inflamed mucosa. A single dose of the drug is about 500 mg:

1. Powder is collected with a clean dry spatula and gently pripudrivayut the right parts of the throat.
2. After that it is desirable to try a few minutes not to make swallowing movements, and the next 10 minutes do not drink anything and do not eat.
3. Then the throat can be rinsed.
4. It is recommended to repeat the procedure every 4 hours.

Despite its effectiveness, the method is rather inconvenient, so the use of streptocides in the form of a powder for the throat is less and less frequent and is replaced by the use of tablets with analogous active substance, such as Tharyngept.

With stomatitis and inflammation of the mouth, the streptocid powder is used both for dusting the ulcers and for rinsing. To prepare a solution, one packet of powder is poured into a glass of warm water and mixed thoroughly. The same solution can gargle with angina instead of dusting the tonsils.

In addition to the above, it is common to use streptocid powder as one of the components of masks from acne and acne. In addition, sometimes its solution is used for instillation into the nose with prolonged runny nose.
