The Torndirrup National Park is one of the first protected areas in Western Australia, the park has been in existence for more than 100 years: its opening was in the distant 1918. It is located on the shore of the King George Pass, about 10 kilometers from the city of Albany.

It is interesting that the name of the park was given in honor of one of the tribe of Australian aborigines who had lived in these parts since ancient times. It is believed that the National Park "Thorndirrap" - the most visited state park, because the number of tourists exceeds 250 thousand people a year.

What is interesting about the Torndirrap National Park?

The national park "Torndirrap" is primarily known for its interesting rocks, which were formed only under the influence of wind, waves of the Southern Ocean and time: the Bridge, the Shell, the Window and others. They all consist of granite and formed several thousand years.

People familiar with geology in the park will be most interesting, because the whole territory of the park consists of three types of rocks, the oldest of which is the gneiss - was formed about 1300-1600 million years ago, just imagine! You can get acquainted with it in the "sculpture" of the Window. Other granite rocks are much younger by age, their age is not more than 1160 million years. Such samples can be seen at the top of the Stone Hill.

The plant kingdom is represented mainly by mint trees, marsh eucalyptus, cotton shrubs and curry forest. It should be noted that in the National Park "Torndirrap" grows a blue lily - this is the only population in the world. There are a lot of reptiles in the park, incl. tiger and brown snakes, spotted ringed python. Beautifully live here and kangaroos, dwarf couscous, shrubby rats and short-legged bandicoots, many birds. Observing tourists from the cliffs of the park can see seals passing by the fur seals in the whales.

How to get to the park?

Arriving in Australia, be guided by the international airport in the city of Perth . From it further about 4,5 hours of the way on the road to the city of Albany. From here to the parking at the entrance to the park you can take a taxi, rented car or on the bus with a group of tourists and a guide. Then follow the signs for the chosen route.

In the park there are many official small trails, each walking along a length of not more than 1.5 kilometers, only one trail running along the Flinders peninsula to the eastern part of the park has a pancake 10 kilometers. The administration of the National Park "Thorndirrap" does not recommend deviating from the path: there have already been accidents when waves washed tourists to the rocks.
