Torre Colpatria - the famous skyscraper in Bogotá . Today it occupies the 4th place in height among all Colombian skyscrapers, and from the moment of construction until April 2015 it was the tallest building in the country.

Unique tower

The construction of the building lasted 5 years, from 1973 to 1978, and the Torre Colpatria was opened in 1979. The author of the project was the company Obregón Valenzuela & Cía. Ltda, and the general contractor is Pizano Pradilla Caro & Restrepo Ltda.

The depth of the tower is 50 m; in height it reaches 196 m. Almost all 50 floors of Torre Colpatria occupy offices, mainly banking. Serving them 13 elevators.

Upstairs there is an observation deck, which offers a beautiful view of Bogota. The building itself can be seen from almost anywhere in the city; it is especially noticeable at night thanks to a unique lighting system that projects light rays onto the white pilasters of the building.

The system was installed in 1998 and consisted of 36 xenon lamps, which changed the color of the glow. In 2012, it was replaced by a new one, consisting of LED lamps. Modernization cost a million US dollars.

In the complex Torre Colpatria, in addition to the skyscraper, is another building, which has only 10 floors; its task is to emphasize the dimensions of the tower in contrast to the height.
