Aldeyarfoss Waterfall

Iceland is often called the eighth wonder of the world. The amazing nature of this state is unusually rich: glaciers, fjords, caves, lava fields - such stunning landscapes can be found only here. One of the main attractions of the country is the Aldeyjarfoss waterfall, which lies within the Icelandic plateau. Than so interesting place, we will tell further.

Features of the waterfall Aldeyarfoss

The Aldeyarfos waterfall is undoubtedly one of the TOP-10 most beautiful places in Iceland. It is located in the north of the country near Sprand Sprengysandur. Despite the rather modest size - the height of the waterfall is about 20 meters - Aldeyarfoss from the first minutes is a delight and admiration for travelers. The reason for this is a sharp contrast, between the black basalt rocks and the snow-white flow of water. Due to this feature, it is often compared to an equally beautiful natural phenomenon - the Svartifoss waterfall , which is located in the southeast of Iceland and is part of the Scaftafell National Park .

The basalt columns that surround Aldeyarfos were formed almost 10,000 years ago, during the eruption of the volcano. Today they are considered part of the lava field of Suðurárhraun (the second part of the word hraun in the Icelandic word means "lava"). Fantastic landscapes created by Mother Nature itself, fascinate every tourist who comes here to rest and gain strength.
