April 1 - holiday history

On the first of April every person who has a large supply of imagination and humor, has a great chance to play a trick on his friend or relative. It so happened that it was this date that symbolizes humor, excellent mood and sparkling jokes. Perhaps that's why the first of April is called the Day of Fools and the Day of Laughter, and its offensive is happily celebrated by the British, New Zealanders, Irish, Australians and South Africans. Traditionally, rallies are organized until noon, calling those who joke in the afternoon as "April fools". The most important and grandiose celebration of the Day of Laughter (Yumorin) takes place in Odessa.

The origin of this holiday is not known reliably, and it does not appear in calendars as an official celebration. On the origin of the tradition of drawing there are many different hypotheses that are one in the following: the roots of the drawings go to medieval culture. Let's consider the most reliable hypotheses of the holiday's history on April 1:

  1. Celebrations dedicated to the vernal equinox or Easter . In the Middle Ages, the celebrations for Easter were traditionally accompanied by jokes and ridiculous tricks. People tried to cajole the changeable spring weather and raise the mood to those around them.
  2. Celebrating the spring new year . On the occasion of the reformation of the Ninth Calendar by the Charles, the New Year was celebrated from March 25 to April 1. However, some conservatives celebrated the holiday according to the old calendar, which caused ridicule of people joking. They were given "foolish" presents and called April fools.
  3. The beginning of the celebration in Russia . In 1703 the first mass rally was held in the capital, dedicated to the first of April. The heralds called everyone to visit the "unheard of performance." Many spectators came. At the agreed time the curtain was opened and the audience saw a sheet with the words: "The first April - do not trust anyone!". After that, the show ended.

Despite the fact that there is no reliable evidence as to why April 1 the Fool's Day is not available, people continue to celebrate this holiday, allowing themselves pranks that on ordinary days they could not afford.

The jokes on Fool's Day are quite diverse and cover wide layers of jokers and "victims" of jokes. After this phrase, a disturbing pause in the television studio followed, after which the ambassador with the same intonation said that it was a joke.

On the feast day, the fools managed to arrange rallies and famous search engines. So, the search engine Google in 2013 played out users presentation of an interesting application Google Nose, which allegedly transmits smells to the user's personal computer.
