The fact that Bowie was a passionate collector and artist, knew a very narrow circle of friends, including connoisseurs of contemporary art. Employees of the auction house Sotheby's it was decided to divide the collection into three parts and submit November 10 and 11 for auction.

On the first day of trading, according to The Guardian, a significant portion of the collection was sold and an amount of $ 30 million was received. The auction also featured paintings by contemporary artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and British Damien Hirst, with whom Bowie created a work called "Beautiful, Hallo, Space-boy Painting."
