Banja Luka Airport

Banja Luka Airport is the only one on the territory of Republika Srpska, a part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Initially, the airfield was built to serve domestic flights, but then got international status.

History of Banja Luka Airport

Banja Luka Airport is located 23 km from the city of Bosnia and Herzegovina of the same name. Its construction began in 1976: the project stipulated that the airfield would accept and send only domestic flights. The breakup of Yugoslavia led to the fact that the city of Banja Luka was proclaimed the capital of the Republika Srpska - state formation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the airport of Banja Luka was given the international status.

For civil air traffic, it was opened in November 1997. For four years - from 1999 to 2003 - Banja Luka Airport was the "home" for the Republic of Srpska air carrier - the company Air Srpska. The infrastructural part of the international airfield was substantially updated before the visit to Banja Luka in the summer of 2003 of the head of the Roman Catholic Church, John Paul II.
