Bed in Japanese style

Exquisite minimalism is a distinctive feature of the interiors of the country of the Rising Sun. Europeans seem unaccustomed as austerity and color solution in three or four colors, and the overall miniature furnishings. In addition, from the traditional Japanese interior there is a sense of spaciousness and the overall integrity of the space. Preference is given to natural materials:

Based on the harmony, comfort and tranquility inherent in the Japanese style, but at the same time aspiring to modernity, decorating a bedroom in elegant minimalism will be a good solution. In such a bedroom it will be easy to relax and indulge in sleep.

If you decide to design your bedroom in Japanese style, you need to remember the principle of "Wabi-Sabi" - that side of the Japanese worldview, which, according to the indigenous population of Japan, "gaijin" (lit., man-not-from) is not allowed to comprehend . But we will try. "Wabi" is modesty and discretion, "sabi" is traditionality, genuineness. Only if you observe this principle of modest simplicity, you will be able to properly organize the space.

A distinctive element that gives the bedroom a Japanese flavor is the screen. It is desirable that it is a sliding screen of rice paper or cloth on a wooden frame. It can be decorated with a drawing (preferably a stylized landscape). The screen is designed to cover from the prying eyes the main element of the bedroom - a bed in the Japanese style.

About Japanese bedding

Traditionally, the Japanese slept on mats, tatami and futons - special thick mattresses, which after sleeping are removed to the closet. For us, sleeping on the floor is a pretty exotic thing, so with the habit of sleeping in a futon it may seem tough and uncomfortable. It is the fact that the Japanese have slept on the floor for centuries, can explain the common for all Japanese beds feature - squat, not inherent in other styles. Therefore, the bed in the Japanese style is low.

A bed in the Japanese style should be chosen only from natural materials. According to the design, the sleeping place is most often a wooden frame with two supporting bars, which rest on the legs. Above the beams the bars are laid by a grate. The frame has very wide "sides", which after installing the mattress become similar to the stage. The mattress is better to choose orthopedic, choosing the size depending on whether the single or double bed. The legs of Japanese beds are usually thick, sound; there are usually four of them (but at the wide beds there may be a fifth - in the center). By shifting them to the middle, a visual effect of the pairing of the bed above the floor is created.

However, the legs may not be at all. On the one hand, these beds are more stable, and the space under the frame can be used for storing things and bedding (for this purpose a lifting spring mechanism is installed). But if you look from the point of view of hygiene, then in order to remove dust from under the bed without legs, you have to move furniture. So if you are allergic, it is better to choose a bed on legs or, at least, to choose a skeleton maximally raised from the floor.

The head of the bed is an optional element, but if it is, it should be simple. It can be high, textured, with inserts of fabrics - the main condition that it looked strictly. There are also unusual design solutions, where the headboard replaces a long roller, and the edges of the bed are decorated with soft materials.

The bed in the Japanese style is best ordered from Japan, and this pleasure is not cheap. But if you dared to take this step, remember that usually these beds are attached futon. For convenience, it will be better to replace it with an orthopedic mattress.

Unfortunately, not all bedrooms are available as a separate room, you have to combine it with the living room. For this case, there are stylized folding beds, armchairs and beds-sofas. Although they outwardly lose, but significantly save space.

On the little things

When choosing bed linen for a bed in Japanese style, the naturalness of materials and their uniformity should be decisive, although coverlets with drawings are acceptable.

Decorative elements in the bedroom should be added so that they are in harmony with the rest of the interior. They should not distract themselves from the bed, which is the main accent, and can be very simple. Do not recommend placing more than one picture in the room. Bad taste is the abundance of photographs and small souvenirs, they do not fit well with the Japanese style.
