Botanical Garden of Christchurch


In the historic center of the city is one of the most popular and main attractions of New Zealand - the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Interestingly, his story began in 1863, when the English oak was planted in the territory of the future garden in honor of the wedding of Prince Albert and the Princess of Denmark.

What to look at?

To date, the area of ​​this landmark is 25 hectares. In this paradise, you can see a huge number of different plants: some of them are representatives of the flora of this continent, and some are brought from North and South America, Asia, South Africa and Europe.

The Garden of Kreacherch is divided into zones. Especially it is necessary to note the thematic zone, called the "Rose Garden". If you are crazy about roses, then this is where more than 300 varieties of roses are collected here. And "Water Garden" is a wonderful oasis with irises and lilies. In the "Mountain Garden" are collected plants that remain green throughout the year. In addition, on the territory of this landmark there is a greenhouse with a large collection of tropical plants.

In 1987 Christchurch Botanic Gardens created the "Herb Garden", "Garden of New Zealand Plants" and "Garden of Erica". What unites them is the fact that both medicinal and edible plants are represented here.
