Alley of flags


The Flags Alley is a landmark place for Australia . It is a symbol of extensive diplomatic relations of the state. A total of 96 flags are presented here, including EU, UN and Vatican banners. The flag alley is part of the Commonwealth Square and must be viewed together with it as a whole.

When did you arrive?

The alley of flags was designed much earlier than the rest of the complex surrounding it. The date of foundation is 26.01.1999. The alley was opened by Governor-General of Canberra D. William. Under each flag an explanatory plaque is installed, therefore it is not difficult to determine which country it belongs to.

To go here is better when the wind is blowing, or in the evening hours, after turning on the backlight. Cloths effectively open in the wind or reflected in the mirror surface of the lake, highlighted by numerous searchlights.

The entrance to the Flag Alley, as well as to the rest of the recreation area is free of charge, round-the-clock.

What is nearby?

On the southern shore of Lake Burley-Griffin is the Commonwealth Square. It is made in the form of inverted more often. Its dimensions are 50 x 100 m. The whole space is planted with a lawn. Under the cup are various rooms - restaurants, galleries. This place is functional. There are social events here. It is suitable for picnics and family vacations.

Before the Commonwealth Square, mini-columns are installed, a paved area is laid out. All this gave Australia the 100th anniversary of the Canadian government.

Nearby there is an excellent restaurant and the Gallery of Australian Design. In the center of Commonwealth Square - another square, called Speakers Square.

Nearby is a beautiful grove in the shape of the constellation of the Southern Cross. The trees in it are planted in such a way as to protect visitors from the midday heat.
