Combating snails in the garden

Such snails loved by children in the garden are considered pests, as they gnaw out a soft part of the leaves in plants and are the bearers of worms. That is why all gardeners, noticing the traces of their stay on their site (holes in the leaves, slime strips, remains of feces), try to get rid of such uninvited guests.

In this article, we'll look at how you can deal with a large number of snails in the garden.

The main methods of combating snails in the garden:

  1. Mechanical - it consists in gathering all over the territory of the site of these molluscs. The greatest number of them during the day can be found in damp and cool places. To facilitate the task of catching snails, you can organize them traps: put the soaked in liquids (it is better to take the juice or fermented drink) rags, old boards or large leaves on the path, and in the evening or in the morning they gather there.
  2. The most natural way, how you can get rid of the snail in the garden, is to attract to the site their natural enemies: hedgehogs, frogs, starlings, thrushes, sap. In order for these animals and birds to remain constantly in your garden, helping you control the number of snails on it, they should make houses for housing: equip a pond, make a birdhouse , and also regularly feed them.
  3. Planting around the beds with snail-attracting plants of herbs, such as: garlic, parsley, sage, rosemary, laurel, thyme, mustard. You can also spray with tinctures with bitter pepper, tobacco, coffee or mustard.
  4. A good way to get rid of snails in the compost pile or pit of your garden is large salt. Spread it better in dry weather in the evening, when most of them creep up. This method is not recommended for use in beds and flower beds.
  5. Chemicals should be used only if all of the listed methods did not help. To do this, use metaldehydes, since they are able to completely destroy snails in the garden. These include "Thunderstorm" and "Meta", the principle of which is to attract snails to these blue granules, after the use of which they perish. Since this is a poisonous substance, it poses a danger to humans and their pets (dogs, cats).

Wanting to remove snails from their garden, they can not be completely destroyed, as they also do a useful job, helping to process organic garbage. Just their number on your site should be limited.
