Enterobiosis in children

There are diseases, a detailed description of the symptoms of which allows them to be diagnosed accurately enough. But, unfortunately, sometimes, when faced with some complex manifestations, parents tend to deny the obvious, keeping silent about any nuances and directing the diagnostic search along a known wrong path, or begin self-treatment with folk remedies, well, if simply useless. Often such helpless diseases include helminthiases or worms, in particular, enterobiosis in children. For some reason, it is believed that the presence of parasites in a child is the result of insufficient care. This view is fundamentally incorrect, since no one is insured against infection with pinworms (enterobiosis pathogens), a short-term tactile contact with the infected child, under the fingernails of which the eggs of the parasites were left, or the object that it held in hands, is sufficient. Of course, it is more likely to "pick up" enterobiasis in the kindergarten, playroom, in other places of children's congestion.

Enterobiosis in children: symptoms

Signs of enterobiasis in children are very diverse, their manifestations depend on many factors: age, frequency of self-infection, the state of the organism. These include:

If your baby has several of the above symptoms, you should do an analysis of the child for enterobiasis.

How is the analysis done for enterobiasis?

Soskob on enterobiosis in children older than 12 months should be done regularly, at least once a year and be sure before entering the school, a kindergarten, sending to a camp or a sanatorium.

The essence of the analysis is to detect in the area of the anus the traces of pinworms that crawl out at night and lay eggs, which is why the child most often feels itching at night. Before going to the laboratory the child is not recommended to wash up in the evening and the morning before, otherwise the traces of parasites will not be found. With the scraping of the scraper, the lab technician glues the scotch tape around the anus, tears it off and applies it to the slide, which is then examined under a microscope. Ideally, scraping should be taken for 5-6 days in a row, since it is very difficult to foresee the moment of "withdrawal" of worms, but it is difficult to do in the conditions of modern children's polyclinics.

If no pinworm eggs are found, the analysis is considered negative, if any, the appropriate treatment is prescribed, after which a reanalysis is performed.

Enterobiosis in children: treatment

The first and main condition for treatment of enterobiasis in children is the careful observance of hygiene norms: regular washing of hands, washing, frequent change of bed linen and bed linen. In parallel, at the doctor's discretion, medications for enterobiasis are prescribed: naphthalene, mebendazole, piperazine. Sometimes they are combined with a cleansing enema. With an itch in the anus, an ointment with an anesthetic is prescribed.

In addition, during the entire treatment period, it is necessary to conduct a thorough wet cleaning of all premises, wash toys and objects with which the child is constantly in contact.
