Estrogens with menopause

To reduce the manifestation of characteristic symptoms in menopause, estrogen-containing drugs are most often used. The so-called hormone replacement therapy is used to prevent and correct disorders associated with a drop in the level of estrogen in menopause. Preparations used for HRT are divided into two groups according to their composition:

  1. Only with the content of estrogen. Most often appointed after surgery (removal of the uterus).
  2. Containing estrogen and progesterone . Progesterone is used to protect the endometrium.

It should be noted that with climacteric drugs with estrogens should be administered with great caution, since they have a number of contraindications. It is strictly forbidden to use estrogenic drugs for menopausal women with such diseases:

Also, preparations with estrogens are not recommended for menopausal women with endometriosis , uterine myomas, women with high blood pressure.

Even if there are no significant contraindications for the use of estrogen preparations in menopause, HRT should be prescribed only under the supervision of a physician, taking into account the individual characteristics of the organism and the manifestation of symptoms. When taking these medications, a regular pelvic examination is necessary. Patients who used progesterone-free drugs in addition to routine examinations should be given a biopsy for cancer or precancerous changes in the endometrium.
