Front and back milk

If the newborn is on artificial feeding, he constantly receives the same mixture as food. The composition of mother's milk when breastfeeding, on the contrary, is constantly changing. It depends both on what the young mother had eaten before this, and on the age of the baby and the time of day.

In addition, even during one feeding, the child receives a different diet - first he sucks, the so-called "front" milk, which accumulated in the mother's breast between attachments, and then "back".

In this article we will tell you what the "front" and "back" breast milk looks like, what is its difference, and what milk is more useful.

What is the difference between "front" and "back" milk?

"Front" milk has a bluish color, it is rich in lactose, and also contains water-soluble minerals, proteins and carbohydrates. It tastes slightly sweet.

"Back" milk, on the other hand, is more fatty , it has a rich white or yellow color and contains fat-soluble enzymes.

When expressing breast milk for a long time, you can see with an unaided eye how much its color and consistency change. Meanwhile, it is impossible to say exactly what kind of milk the baby is sucking at the moment, because it depends on many factors.

Which milk is more useful - "front" or "back"?

Do not underestimate the benefits of both "front" and "rear" breast milk. First, the baby gets the necessary fluid for himself, which is contained in the "front" milk, and then - the fats that affect the proper development, growth and sleep of the child.

If the mother incorrectly applies the crumb to the chest, and he receives less than one milk, it is equally harmful to his body. If there is a shortage of "front" milk, the baby may be dehydrated, if it does not have enough "back" - it stops gaining weight, the intestinal microflora is broken. The child can not satisfy the hunger, so it becomes sluggish and capricious.

In order for the baby to receive a sufficient amount of both "rear" and "front" milk, the mother should give him only one breast for one feeding, and the next feeding - the other. You can offer both breasts at once only to a grown-up child, when the milk in one gland will not be enough for him. If you constantly alternate the chest so that the crumb will be applied to it only for a couple of minutes, it will not be able to reach the "rear" milk.
