According to rumors, the attraction was created by Julian Santana Barrera, who led a reclusive way of life. The man began to collect the dolls thrown into trash bins from 1950 after a girl drowned before his eyes. The collected toys were hung up on an abandoned island: the hermit believed that the spirit of a small drowned woman sucks.

There is another version according to which Julian Santana Barrera caught puppets from reservoirs and hung around the house to appease the ghost of the drowned girl who came to him. The hermit even changed his cultivated vegetables and fruits for broken dolls. However, the Island of the Dead Puppets until the beginning of the 90s of last century was little known.
