Kokino is a valuable archaeological site of the Republic of Macedonia , which is an ancient megalithic observatory. It was discovered by our contemporary Yoyovits Stankovsky in 2001. He determined that Kokino served not only as an observatory for observing celestial bodies, but also as a place for conducting religious rituals.
Surprisingly, the observatory performed another important function - alerts. Workers Kokino, if necessary, had to light a fire on a mountain peak: in this way, all those who lived within a radius of 30 km could receive a signal that something important had happened.
What to see?
Kokino is located on Mount Tatichev Kamen, which has a height of 1030 meters. Therefore, the first thing that tourists see when visiting the pride of Macedonia is a magnificent view of the green crowns of trees. Having enjoyed the panorama, it is worth to look at the cultural and historical monument - it has impressive dimensions, and more specifically, the radius of Kokino is 100 meters.
While the observatory is about 3800 years old, it can be considered a grandiose structure, which is a contemporary of such discoveries as ceramic dishes and stone millstones. During the excavations, objects of everyday life were found that lived and worked there scientists, which helped to add a picture of their lives. They have been preserved in excellent condition and are now in the museum. Among the exhibits are items relating to the early and middle Bronze Age, as well as to the iron. This suggests that Kokino had a fairly long period.
Among the ruins preserved stones with notches, they denoted points of the winter and summer solstice and equinox. Thanks to such "tools", ancient people watched the movement of the main planets - the Sun and the Moon. Also there is a stone bench, made by hand for the leader. Sitting on it, he watched the ritual ceremonies.

The attraction is near the village of Kokino, from which it received its name. You can get to it from the town of Kumanovo , which is 19 km away.
