Lake Tritriva

In the southwestern part of the island of Madagascar there is a small lake Tritriva (Lake Tritriva). It is located near the village of Belazao in the province of Vakinankaratra.

Description of sight

The main feature and peculiarity of the reservoir is the fact that it is located in the crater of an extinct volcano and has a large number of hot springs. The lake is located at an altitude of 2040 m above sea level, and its depth varies from 80 to 150 m.

Tritriva has unique and even mystical phenomena, for example, during the drought period, the water level in the reservoir rises rather than decreases. And if you throw an object in the lake, then after a certain time it will be possible to find the valley below. From this fact, scientists have concluded that there are underground sources and currents.

The indigenous people say that the water body with its outlines resembles Africa from one end, and on the other hand - the island of Madagascar itself. The color of the water here is turquoise, but it is clean and transparent. At the same time, it contains trace elements with a high level of phosphorous acid, and it is strictly forbidden to drink it.

Pond Features

Lake Tritriva is a beautiful and unusual place, with which the locals are associated with many legends and beliefs. For example, it is forbidden to swim in a pond for those who like to eat pork dishes. This rule has nothing to do with Islam, because this belief exists since ancient pre-Islamic times. Even the aborigines tell that in these parts young lovers often rushed down the cliff, if the parents did not allow them to marry.

The reservoir is not only deep, but also quite cold, so it is strictly forbidden to swim it. For travelers who still decided to plunge into the water, there is a special place here, so you can go into it calmly, and not jump from the cliffs.

Be prepared for the fact that on the shore there are no cabins for changing clothes. True, there are dense thickets around which you can change clothes.

In the lake Tritryva fish is not found. It is generally a dead pond, in the waters of which there are no living organisms. For tourists around the perimeter of the sights are laid routes and steep paths, along which you can just walk or make beautiful photos from various angles. The average excursion takes about half an hour.
