Museum of Torture (Prague)

The capital of the Czech Republic - Prague - is famous for all kinds of museums , among which there are such ambiguous and original ones as, for example, the Museum of Torture located in the central part of the city. At once it should be noted that visiting this place is not for the faint-hearted, because all kinds of brutal adaptations are basically not props, but originals. They were used several centuries ago and caused millions of times to the victims of the inquisitors inhuman pain.

Museum of Tortures - the most spooky in Prague

Medieval Europe was famous for its Inquisition, and the Czech Republic was no exception. In remote medieval times, for almost two centuries, the exorcism of the devil and other anti-Satanist actions were practically the norm. Everyone, regardless of social status and age, could turn into a victim of inquisitors. They became unfaithful wives and husbands, thieves, apostates and, of course, witches - real or supposed.

In an old building in the heart of Prague is the Museum of Torture, known no less than other Czech attractions . Perverted fantasy, which made it possible to create a variety of instruments for torture, is interesting to exotic lovers, but the townsfolk bypass this terrible place by the side. Located in a semi-basement museum, visitors can admire the following bloodthirsty instruments:

  1. The pipe. She was put on commoners and bad musicians for profanity and the performance of obscene songs. A leather or iron mask with a pipe at the mouth should have informed the public about their unworthy behavior. This punishment is now considered to be one of the simplest and most harmless, but in those days, a simple person could not bear such a shame.
  2. Punishment by a wall. This type of torture was intended for adulterers - those who were convicted of adultery. "Criminals" to the waist or throat walled in a brick or stone wall, and he died of exhaustion and dehydration, but even this was considered an easy enough death.
  3. The Spanish boot. Made of metal, this tool for torture was highly popular. The human thighs were gradually compressed with the help of screws and crushed, causing terrible torments. After that, the victim of the Inquisition was destined to die from gangrene, blood infection or permanently remain disabled.
  4. Pear of suffering. The device, consisting of four metallic petals, was inserted into the mouth, anus or vagina of the victim and, through the rotation of the screw, expanded to the maximum, tearing soft tissue. Such torture did not lead to death, but severely maimed a person.
  5. Chastity belt. Such torture was not so terrible, but strongly hampered the natural needs of man, in particular a woman recognized as a witch. After several days of wearing this device made of metal, inflammation of the skin of the perineum began, which led to unbearable torments, and eventually to blood poisoning.
  6. Rack. For those who do not know what it is, the Museum of Torture in Prague will tell in detail about this kind of mockery leading to death. Like all 60 instruments of torture exhibited here, this device has a detailed description of the application in several languages. The fish is a trestle, which was laid horizontally by a man and stretched by his hands and feet with the help of ropes and the rotation of the wheel. The joints were torn.
  7. Qty. This simple and sophisticated torture, used for a long time, was to put the point of the wooden stake in the anus of the victim. For this purpose, a sledgehammer was often used, after which the person was turned upright, and under his own weight it fell lower and lower. Torture was stretched for several days, ending with death, when the point of the stake came out through the stomach or between the ribs.
  8. Bone Crusher. A simple adaptation with the help of heavy stones crushed the joints, when a block, held by stretched ropes, broke from the height.
  9. Cage for toasting. The victim was placed in a metal cage and hung over the fire. Man burned not immediately, but gradually, suffering from burns and choking smoke.
  10. A chair with thorns. He was seated by the victim during interrogation, and the metal pointed teeth were digging into the flesh under the weight of the person sitting.
