A kind of astigmatism, in which myopia prevails, is called myopic. The pathology lies in the fact that the focusing of visual information is not carried out at one point on the retina of each eye, as it should be with normal indices, but in two areas. And on the retina itself, only a part of the image is fixed.
What is myopic astigmatism?
This disease can be acquired as a result of any surgical operations on the eyes, mechanical damage or develop as a concomitant symptom of certain diseases. Myopic astigmatism also occurs from birth.
In addition, this pathology is classified into corneal and lens forms with varying degrees of severity: weak and severe.
Astigmatism is simple myopic
Diagnosis and establishment of the complexity of the disease is carried out by examining the meridians of the eye. Simple astigmatism is characterized by focusing some light rays directly on the retina, and the other part - in front of it. In this case, vision is normal in one meridian, and myopia develops in the second.
Complex direct myopic astigmatism
This type of disease is characterized by the fact that the retina does not reach absolutely all the light rays, but focuses at several points in front of it. When examining the meridians of the eye, it is evident that myopia is present in both, but with varying degrees of severity.
Complex myopic astigmatism of both eyes occurs quite often and is characterized by a greater severity of symptoms:
- Reducing the clarity of visual objects;
- distortion;
- cloudy image perception.
Myopic astigmatism - treatment
A weak degree of pathology can be perfectly treated with specially developed eye exercises, wearing corrective glasses , contact lenses.
A severe degree usually requires a surgical procedure, since the described conservative methods can cause attacks of headache and discomfort in the eyes. Operations to eliminate myopic astigmatism are as follows:
- laser keratomileus (correction of the shape of the cornea with a laser beam);
- astigmatic keratotomy (microdermabrasion on the cornea);
- photorefractive keratectomy (correction of the cornea by microscopic removal of its upper layer without damaging surrounding tissues).
