15 km southeast of the capital of Nepal , Kathmandu , is the city ​​of Bhaktapur , which is famous for its numerous historical sights . The building received its name due to the fact that it has a corresponding number of windows on a carved wooden balcony.

The palace of 55 windows is an architectural masterpiece, which began to erect during the reign of Bhupatindra Mallet, and graduated from the last dynasty of kings Malla Jaya Ranjit. For a long time it was considered the official residence of Nepalese kings. The windows of the balcony on the top floor of the building are decorated with filigree wood carving, which is rightly considered a classic in this genre of architecture.

The majestic building of the palace 55 windows during the earthquake in 1934 was badly damaged, but later it was restored several times. The last works to restore the appearance of the building were carried out 10 years ago.

Today, in the Palace of 55 windows is the National Picture Gallery, which features ancient examples of Hindu and Buddhist art: paintings and portraits of kings, ancient manuscripts and stone sculptures, objects of the ancient Nepalese interior and much more. Visit the gallery you can every day from 08.00 to 18.00, except Tuesday.
