In the Indonesian city of Medan is the royal palace Maimun (Istana Maimun). This is one of the most beautiful buildings in the country and the most famous architectural monument in the province of North Sumatra .

The building belongs to the Muslim Sultanate of Delhi, which was founded in 1630 and is located on the north-east of the island . Initially, this area was called a kingdom, and its state status was received by the state in 1814. The Maymun Palace was built on the orders of Sultan Makmun Al Rashid Perkas Alamshiha. Construction of the landmark began in 1887 and lasted 4 years. The main architect was a Dutchman named Theodore Van Erpa.
In the old days meetings and important meetings were held here, state transactions were concluded and international documents were signed. Currently, the Maymun Palace is considered a historical symbol of the country and a popular tourist destination.
The building inspires awe and impresses with its size all the guests of the city. Today the palace is the official residence of the relatives of the incumbent sultan. It embodies fabulous ideas about the life of the royal families of the East.

The Maymun Palace has 2 floors, and its total area is 2772 sq. M. m. The entire structure is clearly divided into 3 parts:
- main building;
- right wing;
- left wing.
The architecture of the Maymun Palace is dominated by the yellow color, which is typical of the country's culture . The building has a unique architecture, combining Italian, Indian, Spanish, Malay and Islamic elements. This "cocktail" of styles gives the building a special charm.
In total there are 30 rooms in the palace. During the tour of the Maymun Palace, pay attention to:
- a crystal chandelier of enormous dimensions;
- antique carved furniture, brought from Europe;
- a majestic inaugural throne, made with colossal generosity and amazing grace;
- ancient portraits depicting the Sultan's family, beginning with the founder - Makmun Al Rashid;

Features of visit
For excursions, only the throne room is open, the area of which is 412 square meters. m. To inspect the visit is about 20 minutes. At this time you can get to the demonstration of local musicians performing traditional songs of the country. The schedule of performances is near the entrance.
