Prakhov Rocks

The nature of the Czech Republic can surprise any tourist. In addition to low, but picturesque mountains , magnificent glacial lakes and mysterious caves , there is such an unusual place in the country as the Prahovskie rocks. This natural reservation is located on the territory of the Czech Paradise Reserve (Český ráj) and is very popular with foreign travelers.

History of the reserve

It is better to learn about the past and present of this natural park will help the following facts :

  1. In the Stone Age on the territory of the current reservation lived several tribes, as evidenced by the found burial.
  2. Tourists and scientists became interested in this area in the XIX century: the first excursions here were held in the 1880s.
  3. The status of the natural reservation was obtained in 1933 by the Prahovskie Rocks.
  4. The name Prachovské skály was derived from the Czech word Prach, which means "dust". And indeed, the ground here is covered with a layer of yellowish-gray sand resembling dust.

What is interesting about the Prahovské Rocks?

The main thing that attracts foreigners here is unusual sandstone formations. They arose in time immemorial and gradually, under the influence of water, wind and sun, acquired very bizarre forms. To many, they resemble giant fingers stretching towards the sky. Prakhov Rocks - this is a whole rocky city, consisting of a set of vertical columns. Around it lies the relic forest, and inside the "city" - observation platforms , paths and cliffs.

Observation platforms

To see and appreciate the beauty of the Prakhov Rocks reserve in the Czech Republic, you need to climb at least one of the observation platforms that are here. From there you can admire the view with comfort, as well as make a stunning photo. The most popular is the "Observation site of the Czech Paradise", there are 7 such places.

Tourist routes

The guests of the reserve have the opportunity to choose one of two routes for the inspection of the Prahovské cliffs. They differ from each other in both length and complexity:

  1. A large circle (marked on the indexes in green). Its length is 5 km, the transit time is 2.5-3 hours. The route includes rock stairs and arches, all 7 observation towers and many other interesting places.
  2. Small circle (yellow marking). The length is 2.5 km, the time is 40-50 minutes. During this time you will see 2 observation towers and a path between the rocks, called the "Imperial Corridor".
  3. There is also an "average" circle - territorially it partially coincides with both large and small, and is considered optimal in complexity. However, even here there are a couple of sites where you have to go very carefully. By the way, it's impossible to get lost in the Prahovski rocks - clear signs are everywhere.

Cost of visit

The entrance to the reserve is paid. A ticket at the full cost will cost 70 CZK ($ 3.24), preferential (students, pensioners) - 30 CZK ($ 1.39), family (2 adults and 2 children) - 170 ($ 7.88).

Infrastructure

Near the entrance to the Prakhov Rocks reserve there are two parking lots for cars. There is also a souvenir shop, a hostel, a small cafe and an information center, where you can learn about the routes in detail and purchase a reservation card.

How to get to Prakhov Rocks?

The reserve is located in the eastern part of the Bohemian Paradise, 100 km from Prague . To get here, you need to move from the city ​​of Jicin in the direction of Sobotka. Your road will lie through Golin and Prakhov, the distance is about 6 km. Tourists get here with an organized tour , on a local bus or on foot: along the road you can meet no less beautiful landscapes than in the park itself.

To get to Prahovský rocks from Prague, as the tourist experience shows, it is not difficult. You need to use the Prague- Mlada-Boleslav - Turnov motorway or the Prague-Jičín train.
