Ski Museum (Oslo)

Expositions

The ski museum was opened in 1923. It is located at the foot of the springboard in Holmenkollen , or rather, directly below it. This is one of the most visited places for tourists. Every year, beginning in 1892, Holmenkollen holds competitions for the World Cup in ski jumping. You can experience firsthand how jumps are performed on a ski simulator.

The museum exhibits samples of skis used by man, dating back to 600 AD. Here is presented a huge collection, collected over 4 millennia, of various designs and profiles, from ancient to the most modern. The museum stores the longest skis and skis of the royal family, donated to the museum. The items are arranged according to the themes and are located under glass caps, as in an aquarium. The Ski Museum offers images and artifacts of the first expedition undertaken by a man to the North Pole - Rual Amundsen in 1911, and also the first Greenland ski trip undertaken by Fridtjof Nansen in 1888.

On the shelves behind the glass are exhibited images from the Winter Olympics in Oslo in 1952 and in Lillehammer in 1994, all sorts of awards: cups and medals.

The museum has 3 floors: moving gradually from room to room, from floor to floor, tourists approach the elevator. He lifts them to the top of the tower, where the observation deck is located.

Jumping tower

The price of the ticket includes a lift to the tower and to the jump platform. This is a complex engineering structure, built at an incline, parallel to a springboard. Finding himself on the viewing platform, the visitor literally hangs in the air. Here you can feel what professional skiers feel when they are about to jump, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Olympic resort and the whole city. There is a shop at the museum, in which clothes for skiers and souvenirs are sold, there is a cafe.

How to get there?

It is necessary to take the metro towards Frognerseteren to Holmenkollen stop. It takes 30 minutes from the city center.
