Opera House (Oslo)

The Oslo Opera House is located on the banks of the Björvik peninsula and is the national opera house of the country. Its building is one of the most recognizable tourist sites in the country. Every year more than a million tourists visit the Opera, and they are attracted not only by the love of art, but also by the opportunity to look at the capital from above.

What is interesting about the Oslo Opera House?

The idea to build an opera house in Oslo has appeared even more than a hundred years, but it was not until 1999 that the place for the project was chosen. For four years, the projects of architects from around the world were considered, and as a result, the winner of the competition was the domestic construction bureau, which offered a unique concept of the "temple of art" in its own way.

Looking at the photo of the opera house in Oslo, you can not remain indifferent, because the building is very different from the likes of it. This is an ultramodern building, which is also the largest in Norway among all buildings from 1300 to our days.

The roof of the theater is tilted over the sea, and the building itself is made of white stone plates and glass. Therefore, Opera is like a huge iceberg, which is nailed to the shores of Norway. On the roof there is a tower with transparent stained-glass windows, executed in the form of a trapezoid. The massive roof is supported by thin columns, allowing visitors to the Theater to admire the beautiful panorama opening from the windows of the building. But the most interesting part of the structure is the steps, thanks to them everyone can climb to the roof and see Oslo and the fjords from above.

The Norwegian Opera and Ballet Theater was opened in 2007 and about 1 million people have risen in the first 8 months of the "opera stages".

Visit to the Opera House

A visit to the Opera and Ballet Theater in Oslo will also bring a lot of pleasure. The main hall is decorated in a traditional style, although the scope is also amazing. The stage has very impressive dimensions: width 16 m, length - 40 m. It consists of 16 separate sites, each of which is raised and rotated. Also in the theater there are two side scenes. It is thanks to such technical capabilities in Norway that the Oslo Opera House conducts the most grandiose performances.

The main hall has a classic horseshoe shape, which contributes to a uniform dispersion of sound. Lighting provides a large chandelier, consisting of 800 LEDs, weighing 8.5 tons. At the moment it is the largest in the country. The hall is designed for 1364 spectators.

How to get there?
