Valley of windmills

One of the most impressive and romantic places in the small resort town of Protaras is the Valley of windmills. This is confirmed by its high popularity among tourists among other places of interest in Cyprus .

History of the appearance of the valley

The valley is also called the "Red Lands". It is a huge territory, where fruits and vegetables are grown, known for their excellent taste. The main culture grown here is the first-class potato.

However, initially there was a problem: the Cyprus climate was not able to provide these lands with sufficient humidity for successful farming. The vast territory of the fields needed a special irrigation system. It was created, and to activate it, the energy generated by special windmills-pumps is used. The phenomenon of windmills is that, despite their main goal to ensure the watering of the valley, they suddenly became a real discovery and a must for tourists. And indeed: the magnificent nature, which is famous for Cyprus, is supplemented here with hundreds of snow-white windmills with huge blades rotating around its axis. They make this place incredibly romantic, unusual and leave indelible impressions.
