Social Perception

Social perception is perception, its direction is determined by surrounding people. This perception of a person is aimed at creating personal perceptions of both himself and the social groups surrounding him.

Social perception and social cognition are opposed to personal perception, which is determined by the characteristics of a person and individual inclinations. Psychologists engaged in the study of social perception, study the impact of the environment on the perception of each person and these same people in general.

So, for example, with the help of social perception, children are told what is joyful and what is terrible, what is respect and to whom it should be shown.

Errors of social perception

  1. Error attractiveness. It consists in the fact that if a person is outwardly attractive, then other people are able to overestimate his capabilities.
  2. A perception error based on a person's attitude towards you. It is that people value above those people who are good to them. People often seem smarter than people who are pleasant in communication.

Mechanisms of social perception

  1. Causal attribution. In others, in his interlocutor, a person, often, sees what he himself has thought of, attributed.
  2. Identification. The human characteristics of other people are a reflection of themselves.
  3. Reflection. The perception of people depends on how a person treats their motives, feelings, understands themselves.

Effects of social perception

Typical patterns of human perception and, in turn, the display of subjective judgments of the individual are the effects of human perception.

It is worth noting that the peculiarities of social perception include structural, meaningfulness, objectivity, integrity and selectivity.

So, social perception largely depends on the personal qualities of the person. His attitude to the world around him will reflect his inner attitude to himself.
