Waterbergh


The Watererch National Park is located in central Namibia , near the town of Ochivarongo. The park is organized on the plateau of the same name. In 1972, he and the adjacent territories were recognized as a protected area. Tourists come here to see exotic plants of Africa. It is equally interesting to study unique drawings on rocks.

Geography and climate

The National Park Waterbergh is the only mountain reserve in Namibia. The height of the peaks ranges from 830 m to 2085 m.

The weather in the central part of the country is mild: the summer months (September-March), the temperature is + 29 ° С, the winter (April-August) - + 19 ° С. Precipitation per year is not more than 400 mm, so you should not be afraid of rainy days.

What is interesting Waterbergh?

The name of the mountain plateau, and, accordingly, the park received not just. Waterbird is a water reserve for the arid region.

In the early 1970s, a lot of mammals and dozens of species of butterflies were brought into the territory of the modern park. To date, there are several varieties of large animals in Waterbergh, the most interesting of which is the black rhinoceros. He was brought specially from Damaraland .

Where is more interesting is the flora. In the reserve grow terminal, acacia and faure, on the steep slopes you can see the velvet-lobed combotum, and near the rivers - ficus. In dense vegetation animals are well-grown.

Interestingly, up to the 1960s, the ancient San tribe lived on the plateau. After them there were rock drawings, some of them several thousand years old.

Tourism in Waterberge

The tourism business for this region is the main source of income. Previously, the reserve attracted only the possibility of hunting. The locals worked as guides. Over time, hunting tourism was replaced by ecotourism. At Waterbergh, studies and archaeological excavations are regularly carried out, which can be observed.

Tourists are offered rest by the river and in the woods. Despite the fact that today in the national park live leopards and other predatory animals, the local tourist center ensures a safe stay of tourists in the park. There are many fish in the river, so if you want, you can go fishing.

How to get there?

The National Waterway Park is run by the D2512. It connects national roads C22 and B8. In order to get to the reserve, you need to go to one of them. C22 runs from the south side of the park, along it you need to move towards the Okakarara, and B8 from the north towards the city of Otavi.
