Astigmatism is a disease in which the optical system of the eye (sphericity) is broken, because of which the rays perceived by the visual system do not focus at one point and, in the absence of treatment, vision decreases and strabismus may appear.
Symptoms and Diagnosis of Eye Astigmatism
With astigmatism, there are such visual defects:
- headache and pain in the eyes;
- the vision of objects bifurcated or warped;
- blurry vision.
Obviously, these symptoms can be characteristic of many eye diseases, so for confirmation it is necessary to diagnose a specialist who can independently assess the state of vision when viewed, or using computer diagnostics. The latter is more preferable, because with it you can get accurate data on the defect, on which the effectiveness of treatment depends.
Methods of treatment of astigmatism
Treatment of this disease can be carried out using different methods, it depends on its degree. The surgical is considered to be the most effective, however it is necessary to resort to it only in extreme cases, when other treatment has proved ineffective.
Astigmatism treatment at home
At home, you can do exercises and use some folk methods to maintain your visual ability.
Treatment of astigmatism with folk remedies includes the creation of a special diet: eating a large amount of cherry, and drinking decoctions of blueberries and fresh carrot, cucumber and beet juice. Take these natural medicines in turns, 1 glass per day.
Also, treatment of astigmatism with folk methods includes such a procedure: every day when washing, splash in the eyes of cold water. This improves blood circulation and has a good effect on the general condition of the visual system.
Exercises for the eyes with astigmatism are performed several times a day, and each of them is given no more than 10 minutes:
- Fixing the sight on near and far subjects: stand in front of the window, taking a pencil and pushing it away from you for 40 cm. Concentrate on the remote object outside the window for a few seconds, and then abruptly turn your attention to the pencil. Alternate far and near concentrations for a minimum of 5 minutes.
- Depending on what kind of viewing is difficult (vertical, horizontal, diagonal), make a central fixation in these directions.

Conservative treatment consists only in maintaining the existing degree of the disease. It includes wearing glasses or lenses, as well as regular exercise and maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.

Laser treatment of astigmatism is carried out with the help of a laser beam. Today, it is the most progressive surgical method of correcting eye defects, which is fast and minimizes complications after surgery. This method is used to treat complex astigmatism. Among the different types of laser operations, keratomilez is allocated: with the help of it two forms of astigmatism (myopic and hypermetropic) are treated and its advantage is that there is no damage to the superficial layers of the cornea.
