Cystitis after sex

Normally, sexual intercourse should not give a woman discomfort from the urinary system. But sometimes after each sexual intercourse a woman starts cystitis 1-2 days later: urination becomes more frequent, severe pain or pain after it, changes in the urine appear. And if the cystitis that begins after the change of the sexual partner, and not every sexual intercourse, can be associated with infection with infections that are sexually transmitted (for example, gonorrheal urethritis and cystitis), then the exacerbation of the symptoms of cystitis every time after sex is most often associated with abnormal the location of the exit from the urethra in a woman.

Cystitis begins after sex - causes

With the normal location of the outlet from the urethra during sex, the penis presses it, closing and preventing the ingress of bacteria into the urethra and bladder. But when the urethra is deep in the vagina, during sex it is wide open (gaping) and the penis during driving pushes the contents of the vagina and microorganisms into the urethra, working as a pump. Similar occurs and at constantly yawning urethra irrespective of its arrangement.

And since there is a rectum next to the vagina, even if the rules of personal hygiene are observed, the intestinal rod from the rectum can still get on the skin and mucous membranes and, in the gaping urethra, into the bladder. Because almost every sexual act can result in an inflammatory process in the bladder.

And just for this reason, cystitis is less common after oral sex. After anal sex, cystitis is possible if, after the introduction of the penis into the rectum, it is then injected into the vagina of the woman, since the entry of various microflora into the vagina, including sexually transmitted infections, can lead to their entry into the urethra even with her normal location.

Factors contributing to inflammation are the dryness of the genital tract during intercourse, trauma to the vaginal mucosa, especially near the entrance to the urethra. But the delay of menstruation on the background or after cystitis can be an indirect symptom of pregnancy (with hormonal changes, the metabolism also changes, which can cause the appearance of salts in the urine some time after ovulation and conception - this cystitis is associated with irritation of the mucosa).

Symptoms of cystitis

If the cystitis is associated with sexual intercourse, the first symptoms appear within 2 days after sex. These are pains of varying intensity, a constant sensation of filling the bladder, stinging when urinating in the lower abdomen, frequent urination to urinate with a small amount of urine, the general symptoms of intoxication.

Cystitis after sex - what to do?

If a woman saw a gaping and abnormally placed urethra while examining the woman, and the symptoms of cystitis appear after each sexual intercourse and disappear after the treatment for a very short time, which interferes with the normal sexual life of the woman, then the treatment in this case may even be prompt. To eliminate the anomaly, the transposition of the urethra is applied - moving it with a possible elongation to the place of its normal location.

If there are no abnormalities of the urethra, antibiotic therapy is used to treat cystitis (fluoroquinolones, cephalosporins, semisynthetic penicillins), if necessary, derivatives of imidazole, nitrofuran and antifungal drugs, which take both partners.

In addition, physiotherapeutic treatment or simply a heating pad on the bottom of the abdomen, hot sessile baths with anti-inflammatory herbal preparations, herbal tea, having anti-inflammatory properties on the urinary system, a diet that does not contain products that irritate the bladder are used.

Also, it is not recommended to have sex before the end of treatment, avoid injuries during the act, it is desirable to empty the bladder before and after intimacy and observe the rules of personal hygiene by both partners.
